Raindrops on roses

Mom used to sing me to sleep at night with "Edelweiss" and "Favorite Things."

I didn't actually see The Sound of Music in any form until after I graduated high school, but those two songs were paramount in my youth.  Now I associate them all with mothering, calm, and sleep--all good things.  I sing them to my own monkeys and it just feels right.

I'm not a huge fan of seasons ending in -all, -inter or -ring, but I do love me some soft rain at night.  I also love the smell of the first rain: those days when the soil and asphalt exhale with the memory of a warm summer.

Ah, humidity.  I'm sure my love of you reveals my California naiveté, but you're pretty rad.

I know I'm going to sleep well tonight thanks to nature's white noise machine.
