I've been debating long enough: Kindle or Nook? The answer is *drum roll* KINDLE!

E surprised the be-cheeses out of me last night by giving me a new Kindle.  He wanted me to have it before Hawaii so I can load it up with books and junk.  Oooh, Lawd.  I's so excited.

I kind of went nuts with new books.  Some free books--all public domain books are free to download, so lots of "Classics" are $free.99, and you can get some others on a few different websites.  I got all set up, figured out how to convert free books if I didn't get them from Amazon, and I even purchased a few.

Luckily I had the morning off and then this afternoon was silent reading day in my freshman classes... lots of reading time.

Here's what I've got going in my first little Home screen:

Let the Great World Spin

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

The Help

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland

Pride and Prejudice

Heart of Darkness

Anna Karenina

Pretty good start, right?  I bought the first three... I am currently reading Let the Great World Spin and I really like it.  The rest I haven't read except for P&P, but I thought it was maybe time enough for a re-read of some Austen.  I might change it up by adding in Persuasion or one of the others I haven't read.  We'll see.  I might end up having to fill the Kindle up with all new books before we go on vacay if I keep up my current rate of reading.  That would be a good problem to have.  :)

So what are you reading?  Or what do you love to read?  What's your favorite book to recommend to people?  I'm amassing a large fortune of electronic books here, people, and I need your suggestions.

Nerdy McNerderson

  1. I've been reading the Spellman series by Lisa Lutz. It's a really funny series if you are looking for something in that realm of the literary world. It's written as a journal and the main character is a private eye in her family's pi business. She's about to release the 4th one in the series.

  2. Ooh! You'll have to let me know how you like the Kindle. My fiance has been talking about getting a Kindle or Nook for the past few months - so no you're not the only nerdy one out there ;)
Did I mention I'm super jealous about Hawaii?

  3. I think I'm getting my mom a Kindle.. I keep thinking on it. She is a huge reader and the idea of her just having one thing to carry around rather than a book she needs to flip pages on.. so let me know how you like it~!

  4. The Help is excellent and The Girl w/ a Dragon Tattoo is sitting on my floor just waiting to be read. I also love Million Little Pieces and My Friend Leonard by James Frey. I know he's controversial, but I think he's a great writer. I think my all time fave is To Kill a Mockingbird. I think I wrote like 3 papers on it in Sophomore Honors English...

  5. It's great to have a whole library in the space of a thin paperback! I finally read A Christmas Carol and Treasure Island (R.L. Stevenson) in the original. And, I permanently carry around a copy of The Little Prince for reference.
Finally, the Search function can look into all your books for that phrase you just know you have, but don't know where to start looking.
