PDawg Rox?

That just sounds wrong.  Well it is wrong.  But it's all over my whiteboard.  "PDawg Rox."  "PDawg is the best."  "PDawg is the Rawest teach."  I'm not sure I want to be the rawest, but I guess I am.  Man, kids crack me up.  We had free time today at the end of class and they just can't resist those whiteboard markers and that big empty whiteboard.  In truth, I prefer all the writing to the times when they make swords out of the whiteboard pens.  This is less dangerous.

I think 50% of why I wanted to be a teacher was to write on the board.  Now I hate it.  It makes my weak little arms tired and blackens the side of my hand like I'm a Chimney Sweep.  I also have something I like to call 'retarded board spelling'--a condition that means that whenever I have to write things on the board, I can't spell them as well as I can in real life.  They just look different, staring me down from the wall.  Even when they're correct, I doubt them.  High school kids are really kind about pointing out my errors too.  They're so cute that way.  I guess it must be because they're all so perfect.

I got an email last night out of the blue asking me to teach ballet again.  I think I'm going to do it.  Not in a crazy, dance-every-night way like before, but it'd be nice to make some extra cash.  I've been so worried about making ends meet.  This would only be one or two nights a week, and it's in a familiar, comfortable envioronment; hopefully that means it's an easy fit into my schedule.

It's been a long time since I've taught ballet exclusively.  The last ballet class I took was in New York during the summer of 08.  I've been in Contemporary dance land for quite some time (well, before I was in quit-dance-and-start-running land).  I gave the occasional technique class to my company dancers at school, but all the while I had to stare down a majority of faces that were less than thrilled about that day's lesson, or wearing pink tights.  It's been a long time since I taught anyone who was excited about the beauty and physical challenge of ballet. This will be legit ballet at a legit studio.  I'm returning to my roots.  I have some major prepping to do.

Only thing NOT awesome about this?  Wearing a leotard again.  Bleh.

  1. What exactly does "Raw" mean? Lol!
That's very exciting that you're going to be teaching ballet again!
I danced for about 8+ years growing up and enjoyed it so much, until it got super competitive.
I wouldn't be excited about leotards either, but I'm sure you'll look fabulous!
    Have a great Friday!

  2. That's so exciting. I'm glad you'll be fitting some dancing into your busy life!
