Happy 4th Of July

Last year on the 4th of July, I was standing in Times Square waiting for a fireworks show that we weren't sure we were going to be able to see: a fireworks show that ended up getting rained out anyway. No matter, Times Square is still a pretty great place to be if you're gonna be standing around somewhere. At least there's cheesecake. And pashminas. And knockoff handbags.

I was there last July for The Pulse Dance Teachers Conference. I can't believe it's already been a year. It was my first and only trip to NY. I can't wait to go back. Loved it.

My overzealous cleaning (read: shoving things in drawers) at the end of the 2008 school year meant that my camera was missing for exactly one month: the very month I was in New York. I don't have any pictures of my own, but here's one that one of the ladies from CORE took... us with Mia Michaels.

Yes, that Mia Michaels. This was right after we took her class (she taught a piece to Usher's Moving Mountains; we sat in on her student class the day before where she taught The Dance from the week before on SYTYCD). I know I look like a sweaty goob here, but I don't give one fig. She's an amzing artist. I really enjoyed hearing her speak at the conference and learning her movement. She's so different--in a good way.

I could try to be all cool here like you're supposed to be, but you know I worship at the altar of her awesomeness. She's just... oh, she just is. If you get it, you know. If not, I can't help ya.

That Booty dance she just did last week? As Stacy London would say, Shut up.

One more 4th of July thing. Here's a little soundtrack to get your started, in honor of Grandpa Ed who has a love for all things John Phillips Souza. Wouldn't be a fireworks display without a patriotic march, right?

Okie Doke, back to my books and my nap. I can't shake this cold. Everybody else is out livin' it up, and I feel like my tape is stuck on slo-mo. Gotta remedy that. Snack, then back to bed.
