Beautiful Day

I'm up and ready to have a great day.

It has been a tough week, but I have lots of things to be happy about:
  • My weight loss efforts are paying off. Since I began tracking what I eat and making conscious choices to get nutrients from healthy foods, I am FINALLY seeing my weight go in the direction I want. I guess 12 miles of running and 3 miles of biking (while I pull 75 pounds of kid) had something to do with it too. I am down to about 152.
  • I have the two EASIEST kids on the planet. They crack me up, and they're pretty fun. I am lucky to be home with them all summer.
  • We have nothing to do today (that I know of) and I'm going to get to spend some time outside with the kiddos.
  • I am still smiling about Lis and her chip clip story.
  • We have tons of yummy food in the fridge--lots of fruits, veggies, hummus, cottage cheese, eggs, almond butter... all my favorite things. Having lots of healthy food makes me excited to eat and cook.
  • We're all healthy.
  • Only 16 days until E takes the Bar exam. We've made it four years and a few months... we can hang on for 16 more days.
  • I ran five miles yesterday!
  • This week, the kids and I get to go to Yosemite with E's mom (Mimi) and April. I love Yosemite. It's a small group going this year, which should be nice and low-key. I'm looking forward to eating, riding the bus with Henry, running, and sitting by the river (or laying on a chaise IN the river) and reading The Thorn Birds. We don't usually hike a ton other than Yosemite Falls, but I want to try to do one that I haven't done in a long time. Maybe an easy one like Bridelveil Falls? The possibilities are endless.
  • Lately I've been making all kinds of new blog friends. I've also been finding people on Facebook I've been missing for a long time... people at all corners of the earth. I love it.
  • I love my new running shoes.
  • I love my iPhone.
  • I have a good job, good insurance, and a good home. I feel ever-more thankful about those things as we get farther and farther into this recession. I'm grateful for what we have.
  • E. I'm happy about E. He knows when I'm not strong enough to hold things together on my own. He's a good dude. Also, last night, he stumbled over his words and told me he "obvioused" something. That was pretty freaking hysterical to us both.
I am choosing to make this a great day. I am making the choice to be happy and to have a smile on my face. It's my choice. It will be a beautiful day.

Coming tomorrow: Q&A

  1. Aww, I love your positive outlook on life and the face that you have decided to eat healthy, exercise, and be happy despite easy day to day tasts that can get you down. I would love to go to Yosemite! I have always want to go. Oh, and have you seen the TV mini series The Thorn Birds? So, so good! I started reading the book once but need to return to it. It is the best! Enjoy your lazy and beautiful Sunday.

  4. Hi, my name is Vanessa, and I was a student of yours at eghs when you were a sub for my teacher when she went on maternity leave in 2002. I started following your blog from Annemarie, and I must say that I love it! I totally relate to a lot of things you blog about and you're an amazing writer! I just started mine, and reading yours is definitely an inspiration, and i also just started to become a "runner". Anyways, just wanted to say hi and thanks for the great posts you do!
