Show Me Your Heart

Okay. I just found dried brownie down the top of my cami (from last night!) and I've got dried Elmer's glue from Ad's "build a house" project stuck to the front. It is not pretty this morning.

But I'm happy--Annemarie from Brunch at Saks just tagged me in her post, Show Me Your Heart, so I don't have to rehash my son's nosepicking at soccer practice last night, or continue lamenting my ever-increasing mass, despite my best efforts to become a runner. *sigh*

The tag: "with as much creativity as you can muster, show your heart in: a picture, a poem, a song (or piece of music), a phrase (or quote), an item of clothing, a place, and (just for fun) a Disney princess. If you want to join in, tag 6 more blogs."

Here I go, mustering creativity.

A picture:

Me and Hanko right after they yanked him out of the cavity in my abdomen. Ah C-sections.

A Poem:

Ars Poetica
By Archibald MacLeish

A poem should be palpable and mute
As a globed fruit,

As old medallions to the thumb,

Silent as the sleeve-worn stone
Of casement ledges where the moss has grown—

A poem should be wordless
As the flight of birds.

A poem should be motionless in time
As the moon climbs,

Leaving, as the moon releases
Twig by twig the night-entangled trees,

Leaving, as the moon behind the winter leaves,
Memory by memory the mind—

A poem should be motionless in time
As the moon climbs.

A poem should be equal to:
Not true.

For all the history of grief
An empty doorway and a maple leaf.

For love
The leaning grasses and two lights above the sea—

A poem should not mean
But be.

A Song: (thanks to K, who always has the best music and movies. Heard this for the first time in her car a few years ago. It's hauntingly beautiful, and more proof that I belong in the 1960s.)

Since You've Asked
Judy Collins

What I'll give you since you asked
Is all my time together;
Take the rugged sunny days,
The warm and Rocky weather,
Take the roads that I have walked along,
Looking for tomorrow’s time,
Peace of mind.

As my life spills into yours,
Changing with the hours
Filling up the world with time,
Turning time to flowers,
I can show you all the songs
That I never sang to one man before.

We have seen a million stones lying by the water.
You have climbed the hills with me
To the mountain shelter,
Taken off the days one by one,
Setting them to breathe in the sun.

Take the lilies and the lace
From the days if childhood,
All the willow winding paths
Leading up and outward,
This is what I give,
This is what I ask you for;
Nothing more.

A Phrase: Choose love.

An Item of Clothing:
Express Stella Boot Cut Jean

A Place:

A Disney Princess:

Belle. I'm so glad Disney made a princess for bookworms.

Okay, now comes the fun part. We'll see if this even works. I'm tagging six bloggers who I know and/or whose lovely thoughts I love to read. Check them out! TAG, YOU'RE IT.

  1. Yay...I'm glad you saw the tag! Your blog is truly fun to read because you are so honest and aren't afraid to show people who you really are (which is amazing :) ). I love this post too- especially your quote "Choose Love."

  2. Yay for showing your heart and that is too funny that we were looking at eachother's blogs at the same time! It's nice to meet you too. We chose the same princess, I love that she is a book work too. Also, love that pic of Big Sur. I want to go!

  3. Ok, so you have been on 2 of my favorite girls/blogs (the lil ladies above me) so I had to come say hi!!

    I love your "heart"...
Choose love! What more do we need, good reminder for me girl!

    Nice to meet you!
